Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV), or otherwise known as Herpes, is a very common type of STD caused by a common virus of two types: Herpes Simplex Virus type 1 (HSV-1) and Herpes Simplex Virus type 2 (HSV-2). Both these viruses lead to sores in genital areas such as vulva, vagina, cervix, anus, penis, scrotum, butt, inner thighs and also throat, mouth & eyes. When the infection is around genital areas, it is called genital herpes, otherwise called oral herpes, fever blisters or cold sores. Though these sores can be itchy, uncomfortable and painful, it does not lead to any serious health problem. The available medications can only help in suppressing the symptoms but does not help in curing it.

The sores are often misinterpreted as something else and hence, people affected with HSV are not aware of their infection. Hence, there is a possibility of spreading it to another person through vaginal, oral & anal sex and also by kissing. A simple skin touch can cause the disease to spread. However, the blister sores come and go often by themselves, but does not create any issue in leading a healthy sexual life.
